If your bike has been stolen from the city, you are advised to contact the Ahmedabad Rural police, which has busted a bike gang specialising in stealing two-wheelers.

They operated mainly in various areas of Ahmedabad including Ellisbridge, Maninagar and Isanpur. The rural police have arrested two people of the gang.

The arrest has helped the police crack 31 cases of bike theft from different areas of the state.

Of the 31 bikes, 24 were stolen from Ahmedabad by the kingpin of the gang, Anwar, who is currently lodged in Sabarmati jail.  The police arrested Wasim Shaikh and Afzal both residents of Fatehwadi in Juhapura and were active bike thieves of the city.

District Superintendent of Police, Sandip Singh told DNA that both of them were given stolen bikes by Anwar six months ago.

"They then used to fake document of the same showing that the bike had been seized by various banks for non-payment of installments," Singh said.

After preparing the documents they would sell the bikes to agents, who in turn would further sell it to others.

The police had also detained two people from Viramgaam area and may also interrogate Anwar. "Most of the bikes had been stolen from Ahmedabad city," Singh said.
