Ahmedabad continued to support Anna Hazare's movement against corruption on Wednesday by staging protest across the city.

Income Tax Circle at Ashram Road, Sardar Baug at Lal Darwaja and Vastrapur Lake were the main spots for protest demonstrations.

Many people and groups joined UVA Azadi organisation that is staging a protest at Income-Tax Circle on Ashram Road. Followers of Gayatri Parivar, a socio-spiritual organisation, had joined the one-day fast at Income Tax Circle.

Kanubhai Patel, managing trustee of Yug Shakti Gayatri Trust, Naranpura said, "We have joined the movement against corruption and by fasting we are showing our solidarity with Anna's battle against the corrupt system. And this will not be limited to Ahmedabad only. We have received the mandate from the head of Gayatri Parivar Dr Pranav Pandya. All Gayatri Parivar centers across the country will hold protest demonstrations and fasting."

Volunteers were seen appealing to commuters stopping at the traffic signal to give a missed call on toll free number 02261550789 of Anna Hazare's India Against Corruption office at Mumbai. Many commuters also responded to the appeal by giving missed call.

Bharatsinh Zala, social activist said, "We are supporting Anna on a non-political platform. These are common people and students of the society who have spontaneously come forward to demonstrate their anger against corruption. We will be lighting candles at Vastrapur Lake in the evening."

Meanwhile, Lok Adhikar Gujarat and People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) had jointly staged demonstrations at Sardar Baug, Lal Darwaja. Though not many people attended the public meeting, the enthusiasm of the students and civil society activists seemed to inspire the commuters. There were a couple of incidents where commuters got into aggressive arguments with the traffic police by saying "because of you people, such activists have to be held to fight corruption."

Activists including Gautam Thaker of PUCL, veteran journalist Prakash Shah, DN Rath of Lok Andolan Gujarat, Bhavik Raja of All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO), Jayesh Patel of Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) expressed their support for Anna.

Small organisations like Ahmedabad School Vardhi Association (ASVA- association of school auto-rickshaw drivers) have also supported the movement against corruption. Dharmendra Brahmabhatt, president of ASVA said, "We are with Anna Hazare and supporting him in his battle against corruption."
