Police on the trail of a young couple, who escaped after getting their sedan car filled with petrol worth Rs4,650, stumbled on the astonishing crime-career graph of one of the partners.
The couple who were nabbed by Anandnagar police on Thursday were identified as Arjun Zhala, 21, and his partner Arti alias Pooja Jadeja, 22. The girl who earlier worked as a model is also an accused in a murder case.
The couple had escaped after getting their Honda Accord car filled with 68 litres of petrol from Visat Petrol Pump in Chandkheda on Sunday midnight. After their arrest, police came to know of the antecedents of the couple, and were particularly impressed by the stellar-record of Arti.
Police said that Arti, who had earlier even worked as a model in Mumbai, is also an accused in a murder case. The couple had been living in Mangaldeep Apartment in Satellite for which they paid a rent of Rs22,000 per month.
They are said to have been partners in crime in at least three offences, including a loot in Sola last month, in their pursuit of a lavish and adventurous lifestyle. “Besides, the couple had fooled the staff of another petrol pump in Himmatnagar district in a similar fashion. The Honda Accord car the duo was using also seems to have been stolen as they don’t have any documents,” said JM Bharwad, police inspector with Anandnagar. He arrested them after a tip-off.
Bharwad said Arti had been booked in a case of murder in Maninagar some years ago in which notorious criminal Pradip Don was killed.
“Arti and her brother Sahdev were charged in the case along with a couple of other accused. Further, she has also been booked in Amraiwadi for a criminal offence,” he said.
According to cops, Arti and Arjun met six months ago through a common friend who runs a call centre on CG Road.
