The controversy over the encroachment of the second floor of the metropolitan magistrate's court deepened further with police intervening in the legal feud on Friday.

The chief magistrate of the metropolitan court on Thursday morning issued a notice through the registrar of the metropolitan court to the advocates who have encroached upon the second floor of the court building, asking them to vacate the place by 3 pm.

However, they did not remove till evening. The court administration had threatened that if the floor is not vacated by Gujarati New Year, then the administration would proceed to take action.

The lawyers did not vacate the place and instead submitted a memorandum to the registrar to allow the lawyers to occupy the place as there was shortage of space with members of the association increasing every day.

Meanwhile, a team of cops of Karanj police station visited the court to get the place vacated, but the lawyers were given time till Saturday evening.

Talking to DNA, senior PI Karanj, KS Savani said that the cops visited the court in the morning and asked the lawyers to vacate the place. However, as they did not do so till evening, police have given them time till Saturday evening. The lawyers will hold a meeting with the association and arrive at a conclusion which they will inform the police, Savani added.
