Ahmedabad NIFT’s ‘Spectrum’ throws up ‘green’ innovations in design

The highly-acclaimed fashion show based on 'green and sustainable designs' brought the curtains down on NIFT's annual cultural festival - Spectrum 2011, which had begun on February 10.

A business plan presentation on sustainable designs saw students of different departments coming up with eco-friendly and sustainable business designs.

Students of Master of Fashion Management (MFM) department bagged the first place in the business plan event where they came up with an eco-friendly discotheque which would convert human energy into electrical energy. This would run the operations of discotheque.

Other fun events like treasure hunt, paper dance, one-leg dance, photography competition and chess competition were also organised.

Inter-school t-shirt painting competition on 'Solution to Pollution' and poster-making competition on 'Save Wildlife' attracted nearly 120 students from various business schools of Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad.

Rohit Dubey, Nidhi Chawla and Annu Nanda, students of textile design department of NIFT, organised 'Texere Couture' - an exhibition showcasing various textile crafts of the country which included tie and dye, block printing, Dabu printing, Kantha, Ajrakh, various creative weaving samples, crochet jewellery and home furnishing products.
Mitali Gaur and Pragaya Avasthi, students of fashion and lifestyle accessory department displayed structured jewellery and interior accessories.

The glitzy jewellery were made of wire, agate stone, silver, copper using filigree and meenakari techniques. Interior accessories including outdoor clothes drying stand, zipper bag, table-cum-stool, CD case, indoor clothes drying stand and POP cup were also flaunted.

A play 'WHAT IF…' and a rock show marked the second day of Spectrum - 2011.
