Muslim clerics as well as social activists have welcomed the Ayodhya verdict, even as some have said that the case could now go to the Supreme Court. Some also expressed the hope that the verdict could lead to an amicable resolution of the dispute.

Welcoming the court order, the Shahi Imam of Ahmedabad's Jama Masjid, Mufti Sabbir Ahmad Siddiqui, said, “Hum faisale ka ehteram karte hain (We respect the decision of the court).” He, however, added that the matter could now go to the apex court.
Amirullah S Saiyed from Baroda, a member of the religious body, Gujarat Chand Committee, said that the verdict was not clear yet. He, however, added that it is time the matter was resolved, and that too in a friendly and peaceful manner.

On his part, Hanif Lakdawala, a city-based social activist, said that he was happy that the people had remained peaceful after the verdict and that there had been no violence anywhere. He said that this could be a sign that people had become fed up of communal politics, especially the kind they had witnessed over the last two decades.

“With the high court ordering a division of the disputed plot between the three parties in the case, new opportunities have opened up for resolving the issue,” Lakdawala said. “This is the best example of national integration. It must be mentioned, however, that some leaders’ desire to build grand temples is worrisome.”

Maulana Mohammed Majaqqir Husain of Juhapura said that, personally, he could not understand the verdict. He said that any one party should have been given the title. But he added that now that the court had decided to divide the land among the three parties, its decision should be respected.
