There is no sign of monsoon withdrawal. The met department has been announcing more rain for the city in the coming days. But, a day after the announcement of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, the BJP led civic body's chief IP Gautam is in a clean-up mood. On Friday, Gautam issued instructions to start road resurfacing in all six zones of the city — probably to avoid bumpy rides for political bosses in the upcoming municipal elections slated for October 10.

To follow Gautam's instructions, the AMC officials have swung into action. Their priority would be to patch up the badly washed out roads. The officials are also instructed to start a hot-mix plant by September 15 so that roads can be resurfaced immediately.

Earlier, the AMC officials had said that they would be able to start a hot-mix plant only after monsoon or if rain stops for few days in a row.

Not only that, Gautam has also told the health and solid waste management department to rigorously keep watch on the sanitation when it rains in the city. An official communiqué from the AMC says that the engineering and health departments have specifically been instructed to spring into action at a time when model code of conduct has started with announcement of election dates.

"It is important to remove piles of garbage, sanitation, road repair and resurface and works of monitoring at the time of rain. So, the officials are instructed to take a round in wards in the morning and prepare the daily report to improve amenities," said an official.

Also, the AMC has suddenly woken up to the cattle menace problem on the city's roads. Instructions were also issued to remove cattle from the roads for smooth commuting for denizens. The AMC has also planned to take police help to avoid any clashes while removing cattle.

Moreover, Gautam has appointed estate officer Pritam Raut to handle any work related to the code of conduct. Gautam also given orders to provide the facilities required - like municipal schools or buildings — to hold the voting in October.
