The Swami Vivekanada statue situated near the Ellisbridge police station was inaugurated by Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 1992.

But 18 years later, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has decided to relocate it as it is on the route of the proposed elevated corridor from Gujarat College to Ellisbridge.

According to AMC city engineer RP Mahida, the proposed corridor ends just ahead of the statue located near the starting of Ellisbridge. "We have decided to relocate the statue but the place has not yet been decided," explained Mahida.

The proposed corridor will ease the traffic near Gujarat College, MJ Library, Railway crossing and traffic junction at the Ellisbridge police station. It is also aimed at linking west zone to east, central and north zone of the city.

The flyover will start at the church near Gujarat College and runs above Ashram Road near MJ Library and finally meets Ellisbridge at the end.

The three-lane flyover will accommodate BRTS buses as well as the general traffic. Mahida also assured that no roads will be completely blocked during the construction of the flyover.

"On the single-lane road from MJ Library, we will complete construction on one side and leave the other half open for the traffic," said Mahida. He also said that two lanes of the busy four-lane Ashram Road will be left undisturbed till the construction
ends.

"Traffic will not be blocked completely on any road," he assured.
After the Bhoomipujan was performed by state revenue minister Anandiben Patel three days ago, AMC officials started work near MJ Library.

A large partition has been erected on the busy road for undertaking a stress pile test of the soil. This test is performed to check the strength of the soil, on which the pillars will be erected for the corridor.

"We have officially started the work and the results of the stress pile test will come within a week," said Mahida.
