The man, who is accused of raping a woman and then making video clips of the sexual encounter to blackmail her, was later sent to four-day police remand.
The Dariapur police have nabbed Bharat Makwana, who is accused of raping a woman and then making video clips of the sexual encounter to blackmail her.
The police caught him from his home late on Friday evening following a tip-off. He was produced before a court on Saturday and later sent to four days remand. Makwana is accused of blackmailing a 31-year-old woman and distributing video clips of their sexual encounter after she refused to continue their relation.
He also allegedly demanded Rs5 lakh from her in return for the video clips. Investigating officer, Dariapur police station, RH Panchani told DNA that Makwana confessed to raping the woman and shooting and distributing obscene clippings of the complainant.
Panchani said that the accused is now on police remand and the police will further investigate the matter.
A police source said that medical test proved that the woman was forced into a sexual encounter. The police revealed that Makwana was hiding in Rajasthan after he was booked for the case. He allegedly told police that he was in Ranuja near Pokhran in Rajasthan.
He was nabbed a month after the complaint was filed. Speaking to DNA, the complainant said, "I want him to be punished as he has not only defamed me and my family, but also my community."
The police in their application had sought for seven days remand on the grounds that Makwana had been absconding and now that he has been caught they want time to interrogate him.
The police said they want to recover the memory card of his cell phone including the video clippings.
