The growing loan-shark menace took its toll on another victim as an LIC agent was forced to run away from home fearing for his life.

After returning on Wednesday, the victim filed a compliant against the two money lenders who had allegedly asked him to sell his kidney to pay them.

According one Kalpesh Shrimali's complaint, he had taken a loan of Rs1.5 lakh from local money lender, Rakesh Parikh, at 5% monthly interest. Shrimali, a resident of Vasu Tenament in Chandkheda, had taken the loan to pay for an installment on his new residence one-and-a-half years ago.

However, he had paid Rs13 lakh within the past year to the loan sharks by selling gold ornaments and even borrowing money from his father-in-law, who works at Kalupur police station.

Despite this, the loan sharks asked Shrimali to pay Rs5.55 lakh more. To get the money from Shrimali, Parikh and his friend, Ashok Desai, residents of Nirnaynagar, started threatening him and had even kidnapped him twice. "Even though I had paid them Rs13 lakh, they wanted more money. They even told me I should sell my kidney to pay them," Shrimali told senior inspector SB Trivedi of Chandkheda police station.

Fearing for his life, Shrimali ran away from home and his family had informed the police about this some days back. He, however, returned on Wednesday and filed a complaint against Parikh and Desai.
