On Sunday, Navrangpura police busted a gambling den being run by a peon of a lawyer inside the office. Based on a tip-off, police raided office No. 302 of Mangalmurti Complex on Ashram Road on Sunday evening and nabbed 11 gamblers red-handed. Police seized Rs24,000, 11 mobile phones and 2 bikes -- worth Rs 1.62 lakhs in all.  Police also caught the mastermind who was running the gambling den in the office of Ramesh Nayar & Co, a central excise lawyer. Jitendra Chauhan, who used to work as peon in the office, had created a partition in the office to facilitate gamblers to use the space on Sundays.

According to the police, Chauhan, a resident of Raikhad, used to keep the keys of the office with him. To make some extra bucks, he started using the office as a gambling den, for which he used to get Rs 2,000 every Sunday from the gamblers who used the space. Since the lawyer didn't come to office on Sundays, the peon started using the space without the lawyer's knowledge.

According to Chauhan, he gets only Rs 3,000 as salary, so wanted extra money to run his house. He also admitted that his elder brother is in jail. Thus, he has to take care of his brother's family as well.
