The Journalist community of the city today staged protest against the  murder of Mumbai crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey and submitted a memorandum to resident district collector.

They first held a condolence meeting at Gandhi Ashram where two minutes silence was observed for the slain journalist before taking out a silent rally to the city collector’s office.

Later, a memorandum was handed over to the RDC highlighting the vulnerability of the media persons to criminal elements.

The memorandum addressed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said that Dey's murder was nothing but an attempt to muzzle the freedom of the press by the criminal elements and that journalists would not bow down to them.
