Two men in a car allegedly kidnapped a youth from an auto garage opposite Karnavati Club on Thursday evening but released him unharmed after a few hours. The kidnappers allegedly also tried to abduct the owner of the garage but the latter managed to escape. A dispute over money is believed to be the cause of the alleged abduction, the police said.

Ruturaj Khamboya, owner of KP Auto Garage opposite Karnavati Club, has lodged a police complaint in this regard. He has stated in the complaint that three men - Tika, Salim and Ujas Patel - came to his garage at 12:30 pm and said they wanted to talk to his brother-in-law. "My sister's husband, Ketul Vaidya, is a builder and has gone to America for some work. The three men said Vaidya owed them some money and they wanted to talk to him about it on phone."

They left the garage after Khamboya assured them that he would let them know when Vaidya phones, the Satellite police said on Friday.

But Patel came to the garage once again along with another man. He arrived in a car at 5:30 pm and told Khamboya that his uncle, Tika, had called for him. He asked the garage owner as well as Vaidya's younger brother, Kunal (who happened to be there) to get into their car. When Khamboya and Kunal refused, Patel threatened them with a sharp weapon and forced them in the car.

Finding their employer in danger, Prakash, Chaman and Ussain- all workers at KP garage-intervened. Patel threatened them too. While the garage workers engaged Patel, Khamboya managed to escape from the car and run away to a friend's house in Vejalpur from where he informed the police.

Meanwhile, Patel and his aide had driven away with Kunal only to release him unharmed near Iskon Crossroads at 10:30pm on Thursday itself. The police have identified Patel as a resident of Tragad village in Chandkheda.

On the basis of Khamboya's complaint, the Satellite police have registered a case of kidnapping against Patel and an unidentified person.
