Along with the city police, the Ahmedabad rural police are also all set for Navratri and the elections.

The rural police are likely to have much more work on their hands as the party plot crisis has drastically reduced the number of garba venues within the city.

This means a large section of the garba revellers are likely to move out of city limits in search of garba venues.

Party plots in and around Sarkhej-Gandhinagar Highway are likely to see a surge in crowd.

"Over the years, the plots near Sarkhej to Vaishnav Devi Circle up to Nirma University have seen a rise in crowd during Navratri. This year there is likely to be more rush as many of the usual garba venues have been sealed. If it happens we will face many challenges," said a source in the Ahmedabad rural police.

According to District Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Singh, rural police have formed ten group patrolling (GP) teams for the polls scheduled to be held this Sunday. He said that once the election is over the GPs will be moving around in the area to ensure a safe Navratri.

Apart from this, around 300 policemen, 435 home guard jawans and 165 Gramya Rakshak Dal (GRD) will be deployed in rural areas including Sarkhej, Kanbha, Aslali, Sanand and Viramgam town.

The police claimed that the cops have been given several hand metal detectors, video cameras and other essential equipment for effective policing.

"The patrolling squads will keep a close eye on farm houses where parties are often held during this season. We have also deployed informers to check on unlawful activities," said another cop.

The cop said that apart from officials of local crime branch, the local investigation bureau will also be moving around the city to help avoid any untoward incident.

For the election, 144 booths fall in the rural police's jurisdiction, out of which 53 have been declared as sensitive. Some of the most sensitive areas are Sarkhej, Shilaj and Bopal among others.
