Ahmedabad doc’s murder: Husband wants narco, brain-mapping tests

A Supreme Court bench has given its nod to conduct narco and brain-mapping tests on Dr Sheila's husband in the mysterious murder of the doctor in Mandal town in Ahmedabad district in 2001.

Dr Purushottam Soni, who has denied involvement in his wife's murder, has asked the police to carry out the narco and brain-mapping tests upon him.

Yet for reasons not known, the police have been reluctant to conduct such tests. Even the state government, which had taken a keen interest in the case, had filed an appeal before the high court order, which also gave the green signal for the tests.

Dr. Sheila Soni was found murdered in her bungalow in Mandal town with her throat slit by a medical knife by some assailants in 2001.

The murder sparked a row in political circles as Dr. Sheila was then the president of the women's cell of Mandal and BJP leader of the town.  Dr. Purushottam, who has been accused by the police, has been crying foul in the case.

Currently, he is out on bail and the case is pending before the court for eight years with the police being unable to provide any major breakthrough.
