Taking a cue from Narendra Modi's sports extravaganzas Khel Maha Kumbh and Sabarmati Marathon, Police Commissioner SK Saikia too has emphasized on regular sports meet for his cops. The top cop was speaking at end of the two-day Ahmedabad City Police Athletic Meet 2011-12.

The Samsher Singh-led headquarters (HQ) emerged overall champion at the meet. "The Police Athletic meet has restarted after seven years and I hope it becomes an annual event in the coming years. Besides, such athletic meets should be held in every sector," said Saikia and added, "We should also include volleyball and football which, besides helping in maintaining fitness, also helps to strengthen unity."

The most interesting event was the tug-of-war between IPS and Police. Using their might and brain, the IPS team comprising Atul Karwal, Ajay Tomar, Shamsher Singh, Sandeep Singh and Maninder Pawar 'pulled-up' the Jawans.

"Gujarat is progressing in all fields, so why not the police. We should work towards making Gujarat police an ideal one in the country," Singh said. More than 400 police personnel participated in the competition held at the Shahibaug Police Stadium.
