The zone-1 DCP squad, in a joint operation with Satellite police, raided the residence of one Jitendra Tanna, 32, and his father Jayanti Tanna, 54, on Thursday. They had received a tip-off that the father-son duo was running a gambling den. The mastermind behind the gambling den, one Rajni Patel, was also arrested during the raid.

The arrested trio used to operate as bookies for cricket matches. The police teams jointly raided the Tannas' residence late on Thursday at B-304, Vraj Vihar 5 in Anandnagar area. During the raid, the police seized a laptop, a TV, two books of account as well as 23 mobile phones.

From the laptop and books of account, the police were able to estimate that the trio was handling bets of Rs33.85 lakh - Rs24 lakh in session bets and the remaining amount in bets on matches. The books also showed a record of the names of bookies they dealt with as well as 30 of their customers.
Patel is said to have had contacts with notorious bookies Jalaram and Sitaram from Deesa. The records in the account books also point at a state-wide nexus of bookies. From these, it was apparent that the trio had taken in bets on various IPL matches as well as the recent England-India ODI matches, said Satellite police inspector JM Bharwad.

Patel, a resident of Kala Sagar society in Jodhpur area, used the Tannas' residence as the venue for betting operations. The Tannas received 20% of the earnings, while Patel took home 60%. Another unidentified partner of theirs, who received the remaining 20%, is still at large.

After their arrests, DCP squad sub-inspector HM Dodia registered a complaint against the trio.
