Ahmedabad commemorates Mother Teresa’s death anniversary

Amdavadis remembered one of the biggest humanitarian of the modern era, Mother Teresa on September 5 by observing her death anniversary on Sunday.

Eucharistic functions were organised in various parts of the city including Mother Teresa Chowk in the morning and at St. Xavier's College in
the evening where citizens from all walks of life as
well as spiritual gurus paid homage to the mother and urged people to come forward and spread love and compassion for the destitute as she had done.

"People from different faiths gathered at the Teresa Chowk and paid homage to the Mother. The day is also called the fest day of Mother Teresa and we organised a Shraddhanjali here," said father Cedric Prakash.

On this occasion pediatrician Dr Nidish Nanavati, who is well-known for helping the destitute kids, Anhad-famed Shabnam Hashmi, director of Jesuit Pre Novitiate training centre, Father Alpesh Mackwan were also present.

All the speakers on the occasion stressed on the fact that today all the world needs is love and compassion.

"In today's world nobody care for anybody — a much bigger a problem than HIV/AIDS. All we need peace in every people's heart. And this what the beloved Mother did. Her heart was full of love and she taught how to love other people who need," said father Mackwan.

A dance and drama programme was also held at Xavier's besides a multi-media presentation on the life of Mother Teresa. The film was created by Social Communication Commission of Ahmedabad Diocese.
