Ahmedabad civic body to exorcise ghost properties

AMC's standing committee has authorised the municipal commissioner to remove ghost properties from the record of the civic body. Around 33,600 such ghost properties have been identified. Such properties do not exist other than in the AMC's record.

There are many properties that do not exist, yet property tax bills for the same are made. Such properties are removed during implementation of TP roads or revised development plans or road widening process. Many old buildings have been demolished and new properties have come up on the same premises. Yet property tax bills for both the demolished structure and the new ones are printed. The tax for the former cannot be recovered as the property does not exist.

The civic body has identified around 33,600 such properties in all six zones of the city which has been included in code 99 list. Around Rs30.58 crore by way of property tax are to be recovered from such properties. Moreover, the civic body also declared increment in the stipend paid to the nursing students of the physiotherapy college at VS Hospital.
