27-yr-old Shashikant assaulted by 6 people was in love with cousin of one accused.
It seems honour killings are assuming the proportion of a social malady in Ahmedabad. In less than a month, second such incident has been reported from the same area Amraiwadi in the city.
A 27-year-old youth was killed on Tuesday night, as he was in love with a girl whose family did not approve of the relationship. Earlier, a Christian youth had been killed for being in love with a Hindu girl.
In the latest incident, Shashikant alias Shashi Pande, was murdered by six people because he did not stop what he had been warned of. A complaint registered with Amraiwadi police said that six people - Pintu Singh, Jayanti Vasu, Kalu Vasu, Guddu Gosai (all residents of Takshashila Society), Monu Chauhan and Sonu (residents of Shivanand Nagar in Amraiwadi) _ attacked Shashikant at his house on Tuesday night.
Police said Shashikant was in love with the daughter of Pintu's aunt. The girl's family had opposed the affair and had asked the couple to end their relationship. In fact, the couple had even stopped meeting each other. But some months ago, they resumed their relations. "This angered the girl's family and there was a fight between the two families a month ago over the matter," said a police source.
On Tuesday, Pintu came to know that Shashikant was still after his cousin. An enraged Pintu soon reached Shashikant's house in Amraiwadi with five of his friends. "At that time, Shashikant was coming out of his home. The six then dragged him out on the street and attacked him with swords and knives," said Amraiwadi police.
The neighbours called '108' ambulance but by that time Shashikant had already died. The six managed to escape from the spot. Amraiwadi police registered a case in this connection and were investigating the matter.
Less than a month back, a Christian youth had been killed in Amraiwadi for having a relation with a Hindu girl. The youth too was killed by the family members of his lover.
