Unable to stand rejection from the girl he loved, a teen took the help of his friend to make a fake Facebook profile of the girl to 'teach her a lesson'.

The teen, a first-year student of SV College on Relief Road, was smitten by the 16-year-old girl. He had even proposed a relationship to her but she had refused to even have any contact with him. After the refusal, he approached his friend one Monal Shah, 21, a resident of Lal Bahadur Shastri Apartments in Bapunagar area to teach the girl a lesson. Shah's father is a labour contractor.

Shah used his home computer and internet connection to create a fake profile of the 16-year-old. He then uploaded morphed pictures of the girl and gave out her name, address, phone number, and even posted details about her family members. He had even written some lewd comments on the profile.

Soon the girl started getting calls from people who wanted to 'talk dirty' to her. Frustrated by the constant lewd calls, the girl informed her father, who in turn informed the cops.

JD Purohit, a police inspector of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) was given the case.

Following a probe, Purohit nabbed Monal Shah who cracked under police probe and revealed about his 'rejected' friend.

"The boy wanted to punish the girl for rejecting him. So he approached Shah to help him in the matter. Shah, who is an adult, instead of turning him away went ahead and created the fake profile. The intention was to harass the girl for daring to reject the boy," said Purohit.

Two days ago a similar incident had taken place as well. Purohit said several youths are resorting to such image-tarnishing exercises as revenge for rejection.

"They think it is a harmless way to get back at some one. Many of them don't even realise that it is a crime that can land you in jail," said Purohit.
