Danish Riaz alias Safi, the arrested alleged Indian Mujahideen(IM) terrorists and a wanted man in the Ahmedabad serial blasts case, was using 25 different email accounts. He was also active on Facebook allegedly to deal with his subordinates and other activists of the terror outfit.

The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) has identified these accounts and are scrutinising them to know about his contacts via this route. Talking to DNA, a source in the DCB said the agency has found that Danish had 25 email accounts with different service providers.

“He was working with a software company and is well-versed in technology. So, he was using different email accounts to remain in contact with different groups of people,” the cop said.

The DCB sleuths are currently scanning contact details in his email accounts and are also scrutinising the emails that have been sent or received by him. The source, however, did not elaborate on contact details found in the accounts.

Danish is believed to have been in contact with many people who are still absconding and are wanted in different bomb blast cases in India. Sources close to the development said that the IM operative was in contact with almost all the members of the terrorist organisation who were on the run after the Ahmedabad serial bomb blasts in July 2008.

The blasts had claimed 57 lives in the city. Danish had a unique role in IM. Whenever a member of the organisation was on the run and could not contact his family members, Danish used to support the family by collecting funds from different agencies. At the same time, he also provided all the logistical support to the accused who was on the run.

Meanwhile, other sources in DCB said that it was the local informers’ network in Ranchi and Hyderabad that eventually led to the arrest of Danish. After Mujeeb coughed up information about Danish’s resident, a team of DCB headed by police inspector (PI), KK Patel went to Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. However, when they found that he was not present at his resident, the team took a chance by developing some local but loyal sources who in turn helped nab Danish.

“Local informers did the trick for us. On the basis of their inputs, police managed to arrest him from Vadodara,” a police source said. KK Patel, Kiran Patel and police sub-inspector (PSI) VK Malhotra were present at the Vadodara railway station, when Danish returned by a Secunderabad Express train on Tuesday and he was arrested.
