Ellisbridge police on Saturday nabbed two Rajasthani youth for allegedly stealing Rs28,000 in cash from an office in Golden Mark building in Paldi area.

During interrogation, one of them revealed that he used to run a tea stall near ISKCON temple three years ago but took to thieving after his business failed to take off.

The alleged thieves were identified as Kalpesh Purohit, 20 and Jagdish alias Harish Patel,28 -both hailing from Rajasthan.

"The two targeted the office at around 6:30pm on Friday and made away with the cash," said Ellisbridge police inspector (PI) BK Purohit.

Jagdish told police that he owed Rs700 to Kalpesh and so asked the latter to meet him at Paldi. Once there, they decided to rob the office, Purohit said.

He said that Jagdish ran a roadside tea-stall near ISKCON temple on SG Highway.

"But he had to wind up the business when the flyover construction began there. He then went to Mumbai where he met Kalpesh. They became friends and moved to Rajasthan before coming to Ahmedabad in search of work. They took to stealing after failing to find employment," he said.

Cops have recovered a screw-driver and other tools that the two used to break into the office. Police have registered a case of theft and are investigating the matter.
