Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai will begin his 2-day visit to New Delhi on Tuesday. The visit is expected to bring the two countries closer, and will be marked by a strategic agreement.

Karzai’s visit comes at a time when he has lost the last ray of hope of reconciliation with Taliban following Rabbani’s assassination, and a growing realisation in Kabul of the futility of expecting much from Pakistan in clamping down on the Haqqani network that has been blamed for Rabbani’s assassination.

Karzai had said in a statement he wants to work closely with ‘US, India and Europe’.
