A special CBI court on Friday remanded former Congress MLC and a promoter of the scam-tainted Adarsh Housing Society Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, his son and two others in judicial custody till 30 March in connection with a corruption case.

The CBI had arrested Gidwani, his son Kailash, CBI counsel Mandar Goswami and tax consultant JK Jagiasi on March 5, alleging that Gidwani had paid Rs1.25 crore to Jagiasi to influence CBI officials and to dilute the case against them. Goswami had allegedly got Rs25 lakh in the transaction.

Special CBI prosecutor Ejaz Khan sought extension of the custody of all the accused, saying that they need to match the call record details with the location of the accused. Khan also argued that they have to recover five petty cash books from the accused.

Informing that Rs75 lakh had been paid by angadia (couriers, who physically move the cash) from Amravati to Jagiasi, Khan said that they need to ascertain the sender of the cash.

However, the court rejected the extension of the remand, observing that the grounds raised by the agency to seek further custody.

Meanwhile, all the four accused have moved a bail application and will come for a hearing on Saturday.
