The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which gave a clean chit to the Talwar couple in the murder of their daughter Aarushi and servant Hemraj in 2008, now seems to be in two minds. It has sought permission for conducting a narco-analysis test on Rajesh Talwar and wife Nupur.
The CBI had first exonerated the Talwars and had accused domestic helps Krishna, Vijay Mandal and Rajkumar of the double murder. But it has stumbled upon some fresh evidence. “There are some new facts that have come to CBI’s notice and we intend to get a truthful response from the Talwars under a narco-analysis test,” said a senior CBI official.
The plea, made in a special CBI court in Ghaziabad a week ago, came for hearing on Monday. The court is likely to decide on granting permission for the test on Tuesday. Aarushi Talwar was found murdered on May 16, 2008.
Responding to CBI’s plea for a fresh test, Rajesh Talwar said, “They had approached me last week for narco-analysis test and I have given my consent. If this can exonerate me in their (CBI’s) eyes, I am ready for it.”
Talwar said the CBI had subjected him and his wife to a narco-analysis once before, and were satisfied with the preliminary brain mapping and lie detector tests. “I have no problems with any number of tests as long as they are done to get justice for my daughter,” he added. A narco-analysis test is done to help a subject overcome inhibitions by sedating him so that he speaks the truth.

Among other anomalies were the switching of Aarushi’s medical reports and her missing mobile phone, declared as untraceable by CBI and recovered by Delhi Police later.
After the recovery of the cell phone last September, the CBI re-constituted the entire investigating team and took off joint director Arun Kumar, who had given a clean chit to the Talwar couple.
