Jammu and Kashmir government today said around 280 people, including 88 foreigners and 38 infiltrators, have been detained in various jails within and outside the state.

The detainees also include 88 locals, 8 Bangladeshi nationals, 11 separatists and 47 criminals, home ministry officials said here.

Foreigners have been detained in jails that are outside the state while others are in local prisons, they added.

Around 139 people who were booked under Public Safety Act
(PSA) were released last year.

The officials also claimed that detentions were made only after the competent authorities were satisfied about the grounds for detention and no political leader or person involved in minor offences were detained under PSA.

At least 15 people have been booked more than once under PSA, they added.
