In a New Year gift, 70 casual workers of Centaur Hotel in Srinagar will be regularised before its management is handed over by Air India to a consortium led by Jammu and Kashmir government.

The decision came after senior CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury had a detailed discussion with Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel today.

The hotel belongs to the Hotel Corporation of India which is a subsidiary of Air India.

These casual workers were working in that hotel for past over 15 years, Yechury, the Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, said.

In a related developed, he said that leaders of Air Corporation Employees Union, who were dismissed immediately after a three day national strike after May 22 Mangalore air crash, will be taken back within a specified timeframe.

The two leaders also agreed that elections should be held in this as well as other unions to check any tendency of union rivalry.

Patel told Yechury that he would talk to Air India chairman and managing director Arvind Jadhav in this regard and a decision is likely to be taken within a week.

This was the second round of discussions held between Yechury and Patel on the Air India issue.

As the outcome of earlier discussions, eight of the 55 employees sacked for striking work after the May 22 Mangalore plane crash, were taken back.

The issue of other terminated employees and re-recognition of the ACEU and AIAEA would be taken up in the coming days, Yechury said.

The Air India management in May had terminated services of 55 employees besides suspending 32 others after a section of the now derecognised AIAEA and ACEU went on a two-day flash strike amid relief work in the aftermath of the Mangalore plane crash that claimed 158 lives.
