62 stranded Indians to return from Libya on Monday: Preneet Kaur

A batch of 62 Indians, who got stuck up in Libya, will come back to the country tomorrow after the government took up the matter with Tripoli and facilitated their return.

Union minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur today said 116 Indians were stranded in Benzami near Tripoli, capital of Libya, for want of documents.

"Among these, 54 Indians, majority of them Punjabis, have already returned a few months ago. The next batch of 62 Indians will arrive in New Delhi from Tripoli on Monday," she told reporters here.

The ministry of overseas Indian affairs had intervened and got released the stranded Indians, Kaur said.

She said some agents, especially in Punjab, had sent the people to work in private companies in Libya. However, the employers did not pay them salaries or even food.

"The ministry of external affairs has paid exit fees of $500 per person along with ticket and other expenses," Kaur said.
