6 days after family’s mass suicide, Odhav police still don’t know cause

Six days after a family of four committed suicide, Odhav police is still clueless about the reason behind the extreme step taken by four members of a family members.

Meanwhile, Babu Patel, father of Mahendra Patel, in a statement to Odhav police on Thursday, said that in the past 10 years, he has given his son Rs2-3 lakh. A retired teacher, he used to regularly receive pension which he had transferred to his son’s name. He also cleared Mahendra’s name of gambling, telling cops that his son was not at all interested in cricket. 

Odhav Police inspector VD Brahmbhatt told DNA, “The reason behind the suicide is yet to be established. We have obtained quite a large number of stock market papers and religious literature from Mahendra Patel’s house. In addition, medical files were also received.”

Brahmbhatt also said that calls, received and made from the two cell phones obtained from his residence, were also being traced. 

Police are trying to establish the cause behind why the family committed suicide en masse. Cops also said that Patel had bought the house only seven months back.

Mahendra Patel, his wife Divya Patel and their kids - Vraj and Devanshi - had committed suicide late on Monday evening. Mahendra had poisoned both his children. His wife then took her life and later on, Patel committed suicide.
