Unlike previous years, no social or political group or even relatives of Nithari victims organised prayer meet here in memory of the deceased on the fifth anniversary of the serial killings expose.

Only Jhabbu Lal, father of Jyoti, 13, lighted candles outside D-5, 'the house of horror', and paid homage to his daughter and other victims.

Media people waited the entire day outside D-5    for family members of other victims but nobody turned up.

In the previous years, families of the victims performed 'havan' ceremony for the peace of their lost ones at the back of D-5 house, from where skulls and bones of several missing children were recovered in 2006, exposing the serial killings.

On December 29, 2006 after recovery of skulls from the dry drain behind the house, Noida Police had arrested house owner businessman MS Pandher and his servant Surinder Koli.

A total of 19 cases were filed in connection with the rape and murder of children and a young woman whose skeletal remains, clothes and footwear were found in the drain. The CBI had filed charge sheets in 16 cases and three cases were closed due to lack of evidence.

The rapes and murders in Nithari had sent shock waves across the nation.

Koli was sentenced to death by CBI in four cases. Koli as given capital punishment in February 2009 for the rape and murder of 14-year-old Rimpa Haldar, in September 2009 for rape and murder of 8-year-old Aarti and in May this year on the same charges in the case relating to teenager Rachna. He was also sentenced to death for the rape and murder of 12-year-old Deepali on December 22.

While Pandher and Koli were both initially held as accused in the Deepali case, the CBI named Koli as the prime accused in the charge sheet, stating there was lack of evidence against Pandher.

Pandher, who was awarded death sentence in one of the cases by the trial court, moved the Allahabad High Court against the verdict which acquitted him in 2009.
