50 Gujarati babus to be ECI observers

Work in the state government, which have been moving at snail’s pace currently owing to prior engagements of decision makers in various public events and campaigns, is likely to be affected further as more than 50 babus from Gujarat will have to report to the Election Commission of India (ECI) as observers for state assembly elections.

Source in the state government have indicated that these IAS officers have been informed by the ECI on Tuesday and also asked to attend the meeting of observers appointed by ECI from across the country at New Delhi on January 2, 2012.

“The state General Administration Department had sent names of more than 50 IAS officers to the ECI for the duty of observer in the assembly elections in Goa, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Manipur. After the communication, these officers will got to Delhi to attend the meeting,” sources said. The meeting will assign these officers the particular state as well as phase of election they will have to cover.
