5-year-old dies of falciferum malaria in Surat, six under treatment

Falciferum is a rare type of malaria in which the brain is affected. Seven from a women's remand home were admitted to the civil hospital and had tested positive for falciferum.

A five year-old-girl, who had tested positive for falciferum, died late last night here, hospital sources said. Falciferum is a rare type of malaria in which the brain is affected. The minor was among the seven children from the women's remand home admitted to civil hospital and who had tested positive for falciferum.

Saini, 5, along with six other children, who were staying at the women's remand home, were admitted to the civil hosptial on Friday last after they complained of high fever, nausia, they said.

According to police, there were 17 children in the remand home out of which seven were diagonaise with falciferm.

Doctors at the hospital said that the condition of the six children was stable.

Those children undergoing treatment include Sanju, 5, Sanjana, 3, Namrata, 2, Dharmishta, 5, Sundari, 4 and Anjali, 5.
