5 killed as bus carrying pilgrims falls into gorge in UP

Five persons, including four women, were today killed when a bus carrying pilgrims plunged into a gorge in Gadaganj police area of Rae Bareli district in Uttar Pradesh, official sources said here.

The bus carrying 51 pilgrims, who were returning from Mathura to Lalganj in Pratapgarh district, plunged into a gorge near Bararaburj village in Rae Bareli district this morning, they said.

While 46 passengers were rescured, five pilgrims were killed in the accident, police said.

Those killed were identified as Ramraji, 72, Prabhawati, 65, Prabhudevi, 50, Shrimati, 50 and Cheddilal Yadav, 55, they said.

Police said the bus driver Bashir Ahmad fled from the spot after the accident.
