5 guards with fake gun licences arrested

Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) officials on Thursday raided the office of Check-Mate Security agency and arrested five of the guards employed by them. The five men were arrested for carrying firearms despite carrying fake gun licences.

The men were identified as Hasan Ali Gaddi, Ramnivas Rana, Pappu Singh Jogi, Bhagwan Singh Jaat and Vikram Singh Jaat all natives of Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh (UP), which is notorious for the illegal firearms manufactured there. Five 12-bore shotguns along with 27 cartridges worth a total Rs91,350 were also seized from the men by the DCB.

Fake gun licences are available in UP for as little as Rs500-1,000, claimed DCB. On interrogation, it was revealed that many guards who get such fake licences, only do it because it fetches them more pay.
 
“A guard who can carry a firearm is paid a salary of about Rs8,000 whereas one who doesn’t have a gun license gets paid only Rs4,000. They get the licence only to get paid more for their jobs,” said DCB police inspector, SM Chaudhary.

Chaudhary further added that security agencies end up employing such fake gun license-holders as they do not bother verifying the authenticity of the licences.
