45% voting in Uttar Pradesh assembly bypoll

By-election to Nidhauli Kalan and Lakhimpur assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh was held peacefully today with 45% voters exercising their franchise.

Polling was held amid tight security with 45% of the electorate in the two constituencies casting their votes and no untoward incident reported from anywhere, sources in the Lucknow election office said.

By-election to the two seats was necessiated following the death of sitting MLAs, Anil Kumar Singh and Kauhal Kishore (both of the Samajwadi Party) of Nidhauli Kalan and Lakhimpur respectively, the sources said.

The counting of votes would be taken up on November 23, they added.
