4 youths arrested for drinking under the influence

In a startling incident, four youth, one of which is believed to the nephew of a top police official, were caught drinking in a car in front of the Himalaya mall during the wee hours of Wednesday morning.

The incident has come as surprise also because the youth took to drinking despite the recent spurious liquor tragedy, which has so far claimed the lives of at least three people. The liquor consumed by the victims was a mixture of methyl alcohol and water.

The Vastrapur police arrested the youth from the Himalaya mall at 2 am on Wednesday in an inebriated condition. The incident has shocked people as one of the accused Rajul Gautam, is believed to be the nephew of a top cop of the city. All the four have been booked under the Prohibition Act.

According to a source, the youth were caught drinking in a Skoda car on the road. The Vastrapur police also recovered a half-filled bottle of whiskey from the car they were in. The other three accused are Kalpesh Desai, Anil Patel and Raju Patel.

Ladva also told DNA that the car has been seized and is presently in the custody of the Vastrapur police. The city police have swooped down on bootleggers after the recent alleged hooch tragedy. Police have arrested many bootleggers to prevent them from supplying liquor to people and have booked them under Pasa in this regard.
