One killed, 40 injured as bus turns turtle in New Delhi

The incident took place in Yamuna Vihar D-block locality at around 2.30am when the driver lost control of the speeding bus and rammed into a divider, a senior police official said.

One person was killed and around 40 others, who were on their way to Rajasthan for a pilgrimage, were injured when a bus carrying 80 people overturned in the capital early today.
 
The incident took place in Yamuna Vihar D-block locality at around 2.30am when the driver lost control of the speeding bus and rammed into a divider, a senior police official said.
 
Forty-two people were injured in the accident and were taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, police and hospital authorities said.
 
One Mukesh, a resident of Badaun who suffered head injuries, died during treatment while the condition of two persons, including a minor girl, is stated to be serious, the official said.
 
The bus, which was packed with pilgrims, was coming from Moradabad and going to Bikaner for a local festival of 'Peer Baba'. The passengers, including women and children, are all residents of villages in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
 
"There were around 80 people travelling in the bus and some of them were sitting on the roof. They got trapped inside the bus. The bus was badly damaged and it took more than two hours to tow away the bus and clear the road," the official said.
 
Soon after the incident, the driver fled the spot while the injured conductor escaped from hospital.
 
A hunt is on to nab the absconding driver.
