Members of an Ahir family from Navsari were returning home after completing community ritual at Vallabhipur in Bhavnagar.
Ten people including three from the same family were killed in a road mishap near Dhandhuka in the early hours of Friday morning. The incident took place, when the driver of the tempo these people were traveling in lost control of the vehicle, while he was trying to overtake another vehicle. The bodies of the victims will reach Navsari on Saturday.
Gabhru Bharwad, 45, a resident of Dharmani nagar in Navsari went to his native town in Navagam in Vallabhipur taluka of Bhavnagar district to attend the Shrimant function of his daughter-in-law. The Bharwad family was also accompanied by their relatives when they went to the Chamunda Devi temple located at Navagam in an Eicher tempo.
The Bharwad family and their relatives started off on Thursday evening for Navsari. On the way near Dhandhuka, tempo driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned resulting in a gruesome accident. While 10 people including three members of Gabru's family died on the spot, five people sustained grievous injuries.
Gabhru's daughter-in-law Jasu Bharwad, 28, wife Shantu, 50, and daughter Vali, 22, died in the accident, while seven of his relatives including two children lost their lives. They are identified as Laxmi Bharwad, 70,
Tidi Bharwad, 50, Raiya Bharwad (Bardoli), Janu Bharwad, 3, Ajay Bharwad, 3 months, Laxmi Bharwad, 24, and Haka Bharwad, 40.
Gabhru and his son along with three relatives sustained injuries in the incident. They have been rushed to government hospital at Dhandhuka, where their condition is said to be stable. Dhandhuka police has registered a case and is investigating into the matter.
