3 more die in flood in Uttar Pradesh

Two children died in flood-hit Gonda district, where water gushing through a breach in Charsari embankment has hit several villages, one death was reported from Azamgarh district.

Three more persons died in Uttar Pradesh since Tuesday as flood caused by heavy rains in the last few days continued to play havoc in a number of districts, official sources said here today.
 
Two children died in flood-hit Gonda district, where water gushing through a breach in Charsari embankment has hit several villages, one death was reported from Azamgarh district where the roof of a house collapsed late last night, they said.
 
In Gonda district, nearly 86 villages have been hit by flood caused by a one and half kilometre breach in Charsari embankment in Parsawal village.
 
"A team of national rapid response team has been deployed to carry out relief and rescue work in 24 villages," district magistrate Madhukar Dwiwedi said.
 
According to the Central Water Commission report, the water level of Ganga river was still rising at Ballia, Ghazipur and Phaphamau in Allahabad. The river was flowing almost at danger mark at Kannauj, Ankinghat, Kanpur and Dalmau (Raebareli), it said.
 
Ramganga, which had already played havoc in a number of districts, was flowing above danger mark at Dabri in Shahjahanpur.
 
Similarly, Yamuna was flowing above danger mark at Prayag Ghat in Mathura and was swelling at Etawah, Kalpi and Chillaghat in Banda whereas Sharda was flowing above danger mark at Palliakalan and Shardanagar, both in Lakhimpur district.
 
Ghaghara was also flowing above danger mark at Elgin Bridge (Barabanki), Ayodhya and Turtipar in Ballia and Rapti was flowing above danger mark at Birdghat and Rigauli in Gorakhpur.
