Naranpura police registered a case against the relatives of the complainants who had helped the cops nab a man claiming to be a fake ACP on Saturday. They were arrested for threatening cops on duty.

The cops had offered the students and their relatives to close the matter of the fake cop. But they were adamant and, in the process, threatened them of dire consequences which led to their arrest.

Earlier, on Friday, students of Nav Gujarat College nabbed a man trying to extort money by posing as a crime branch officer. Vivek Kumar Gupta, at 11:30am, approached a couple of students sitting outside Nav Gujarat College on Ashram Road and asked them for their ID cards. Gupta identified himself as Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with Mumbai crime branch. He then threatened the students to book them for drug trafficking.

Pritesh Savania and Vishal Chauhan are studying in third year B.Com of the college. Scared, they handed over their ID cards to Gupta, who allegedly asked four students to accompany him to the police station. After collecting their ID cards, Gupta reportedly offered to 'settle the matter', and asked the frightened lot to give him money.

Since Vishal didn't have any cash, he called his father Umakant Chauhan, a resident of Naroda, and cousin Dhiraj Gajre. Umakant asked Vishal and Dhiraj to ask for Gupta's ID card and told them to not let Gupta leave the spot till he arrives.  Gupta said he did not have one and thus confirming his being a fake cop.
