Three policemen from Surat district have been suspended for taking bribe to close a case. The three policemen took money to dispose of a case pertaining to a raid made on gamblers.
The three officials have been identified as PSI DS Soni, head constable Prakash Vishwas and constable Rajesh Chhotu of Palsana police station.

According to the case details, the Palsana police had raided a cattle house at Gangpur village a few weeks back. Police had arrested eight persons involved in gambling and seized R45,000 from them. They were taken to the police outpost at Gangadhara, where they were kept in custody for a few hours.

Instead of registering a case, the police officials struck a deal with the arrested gamblers and allowed them to go. They kept Rs45,000 seized from the spot with them and took another Rs30,000 from the gamblers as bribe to set them free.

When the matter came to the knowledge of Surat district superintendent of police Piyush Patel, he ordered an inquiry into the incident by the Local Crime Branch (LCB). The LCB found that the three policemen had actually taken bribe to dispose of the case. On the basis of the LCB report, Patel suspended the three officials.

"During investigation, we found that Soni and the two others had taken money for closing the case. Statements and other proofs supported the case   and based on that, a report was filed before the DSP," VB Desai, LCB inspector, told DNA on Friday.
