2G scam: Tata group gets clean chit

While giving clean chit to the Tata group in the spectrum scam probe, the CBI has listed corporate lobbyist Nira Radia among he 125 witnesses listed in its charge sheet.

Despite Radia’s tapped conversation has revealed that she played a key role in allocation of UAS licenses to his client, CBI has only made her as witness in the case.

Nira Radia’s telephones were tapped by the Income Tax department. Radia runs a public relations firm named Vaishnavi Corporate Communications, and also operates through subsidiaries such as Neucom, Noesis Strategic Consulting Services and Vitcom Consulting, whose clients, among others, include Ratan Tata’s Tata Group, Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries.  The CBI has also given clean chit to Tata group, despite company’s relation with Unitech, one the telecom companies.

The CBI was investigating Tata’s transaction of Rs1600 crore to Unitech in 2007, months before the allocation of UAS licenses facilitated by Nira Radia.

Two top officials from Tata Realty and Infrastructures Ltd (TRIL) i.e Kishore Salvatore and Sanjay Ubale, company’s chief finance officer and managing director respectively were questioned on their company’s certain financial transactions.

Meanwhile, the CBI is banking upon eight key witnesses, whose statement under Section 164 of Cr.PC have already been recorded by the CBI.
