Over 500 traffic cops from the city had undergone check-up at the camp held with help from Vasan Eye Care Hospital. During the check-up, it was found that some of the cops also suffered from eye infections.

Ahmedabad city has around 950 traffic police personnel and about 50 cops have been undergoing eye check-ups each day since Traffic Week began. In all, there are 72 major traffic points in the city with each point being manned by at least four cops.

Assistant manager of the hospital, Parth Patel said that the camp was held as part of their corporate-social responsibility.

Patel said that dust, pollution and long hours of work in the open were identified as some of the reasons that lead to vision problems among the traffic police.DCP-Traffic, SM Khatri said the free eye check-up camp will help the personnel seek correct remedies for vision problems that they might have.

"More policemen will undergo an eye check-up at the camp," said Khatri.

At the camp the cops were also given tips to take care of eyes including washing eyes regularly and wearing sunglasses while out in the open.

A cop who underwent the check-up said it was indeed a good measure. "But it would have been better if they offered us some discount in treatment as well as we cannot afford the future treatments that they recommended, given our low pay," said the cop who chose to remain anonymous.
