23 bogies of goods train laden with coal derails in Bihar

Twenty-three bogies of a goods train carrying coal for National Thermal Power Corporation's Kahalgaon thermal power plant derailed near Dhanokhar village under Sanokhar police station area in Bihar's Bhagalpur district today, official sources said.

The incident took place after a person, identified as Kundan Yadav (25), boarded the train and pulled the chain to stop the speeding goods train so as to pilfer coal, the sources said.

Yadav, who sustained injuries, was rushed to the NTPC hospital at Kahalgaon, they said.

Meanwhile, the NTPC officials have rushed to the site to make arrangement for transportation of the coal from the derailed goods train to the thermal power plant at Kahalgaon, the sources said.

Officials from Sahebganj railway station too have swung into action and rushed a team of technical experts and equipment like cranes for restoration of tracks on either side and rail bridge number 25 which were damaged due to the derailment, the sources said.

The movement of goods trains from the Eastern Coal Limited (ECL)'s Lalmatia coal mine to the NTPC thermal power plant at Kahalgaon stood suspended till restoration of the track, the sources added.
