A witness in the Naroda Patiya riot case of 2002 has questioned testimony of a doctor with regard to the killing of a pregnant woman during post-Godhra riots and sought further probe in the matter.

An eye witness of the incident, Dildar Sayyed, has filed an application seeking further investigation into the case saying that the pregnant woman was unidentified when post-mortem was conducted in civil hospital in 2002.

Sayyad told the special court hearing the case that it was additional commissioner of police (crime branch) who identified the 2002 post-mortem report of the pregnant woman as that of one Kausar Bano in August 2004.

Some of the witnesses have alleged while deposing before designated Judge Jyotsna Yagnik that two of the accused in Naroda Patiya case, had slit open Kausar Banu's womb with a
sword and flung the unborn feotus before setting her on fire.

Dr Jayant Kanoria, who was in-charge of post-mortem at the city civil hospital in 2002, had told the court early this month that foetus of Kausar Bano was inside the womb and there were no external injury marks on her body.

Sayyad has asked how Dr Kanoria knew that the body was that of Kausar Bano when it was not identified at the time of post-mortem in 2002.

Sayyad also asked on what basis that additional commissioner of police made changes in the post-mortem note after two years of the incident.

Sayyad in his application said that detailed probe was necessary in this regard as the bodies of victims were badly burnt and it was impossible to identify when they had come for post-mortem.

He further said that Dr Kanoria's statement contradicted the version of witnesses as well as claims made by an accused Babu Bajrangi on the Tehelka sting operation video footage.

During the post-Godhra riots in Naroda Patiya area 95 persons of the minority community were killed on February 28, 2002.
