18-year-old drowns in river while picnicking in Rajasthan

Abhijeet Das, a resident of Assam's Barpeta district who was staying in Kota to take coaching for his IIT entrance exam, drowned in Chambal river last afternoon and his body is yet to be found.

An eighteen-year-old boy accidentally fell into the Chambal river and drowned at a picnic spot near Garadiya Mahadev temple here, police said today.

Abhijeet Das, a resident of Assam's Barpeta district who was staying in Kota to take coaching for his IIT entrance exam, drowned in Chambal river last afternoon and his body is yet to be found, SHO Dhabi police station Mahendra Kumar Marru said.

The boy had come to the spot for a picnic with eight of his friends when he fell in the river. Though two of his friends jumped in the waters to save him, they could not succeed, the SHO said.

Efforts are on to recover his body from the deep waters, he added.
