162 get degree at Indian Diamond Institute convocation

The institute awarded gold medal to six students who secured first position in various courses, while nine students were handed medals sponsored by different organisations.

On the annual convocation of Indian Diamond Institute (IDI) on Friday, which was also the 32nd Foundation Day of the institute, 162 students were awarded their respective degree in a function held in the IDI campus in Surat.  The institute awarded gold medal to six students who secured first position in various courses, while nine students were handed medals sponsored by different organizations.  The function was attended by top diamond entrepreneurs and experts.

IDI's youngest chairman Aagam Sanghvi, in his welcome speech, congratulated the students for their success and praised them for having faith in the industry when it was going through difficult times. "The diamond industry is recovering from the recession.

Many new sectors have opened up in the industry and with India holding 80% share in world diamond market, students have great future ahead. Today jewellery sector is emerging as a promising field after diamonds," said Sanghvi.

Asit Metha, the chief guest of the programme asked the students to adopt innovation rather than going for routine business module. He said that new ideas and novel approach can transform a small unit to a large industry.

During the programme, IDI showcased its New City Centre being developed at Vesu. K K Sharma, director of IDI said that the new centre will have the latest technology and ultra-modern infrastructure for the students.
