16-year-old alleges rape by father in Surat

A 16-year-old girl was repeatedly raped by her father in Surat. The incident surfaced after the girl narrated her side of the story to the police, who then lodged a complaint against the father, her two brothers and arrested the trio on late Thursday evening.

The girl will be taken to a government hospital for medical examination.

Lata (name changed), 16, a resident of Bahucharnagar in Katargam was found unconscious near Sagrampura on Thursday afternoon. Local residents rushed the girl to a nearby hospital where she gained conscious, hospital authorities informed the police who then interrogated Lata.

Lata told the police that she fled from the house as her father raped her repeatedly. She said that her father, Manu Kataria, 40, a diamond polisher by profession used to force her to drink a liquid mixed with some medicine. Every time she would drink that, she would become unconscious and then her father would rape her. This happened five times. The first time Kataria raped Lata was in December 2010.

Based on what Lata said, Katargam police registered a complaint and after a brief hunt arrested Kataria and his two sons. Lata also revealed that both her brothers used to harass her and support her father in his foul deeds.

Lata and Kataria will be taken to New Civil Hospital for a medical check-up on Friday morning. Katargam police are further investigating the matter.
