16 people killed, 4 injured as train hits jeep in Bihar

While twelve people were killed on the spot, three died on way to a hospital and one person succumbed to injuries at the hospital, the police said.

Sixteen people, including 15 women, were killed and three others injured when a jeep in which they were travelling was hit by the Garib Rath Express at an unmanned railway crossing near Bharia-Bishanpur village in Madhubani district of Bihar today, police said.

While twelve people were killed on the spot, three died on way to a hospital and one person succumbed to injuries at the hospital, the police said.

The mishap took place when the jeep was hit by the speeding Nizamuddin-Jainagar Garib Rath Express when it was trying to cross over to the other side of the railway track, police said.

The victims were travelling in the car to participate in the victory procession of their relative Veena Devi, wife of one Anirudh Yadav, who was elected as a mukhiya.

The injured were taken to a hospital where their condition was stated to be critical, they said.
